Metamorphasize
This was the first of two big projects I made while attending a Filmmaking program at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts for High School students. Out of my teenage shorts is probably the project which taught me the most about filmmaking (I also consider this the worst of my teenage shorts). This was the first time I wrote a full and proper screenplay with multiple drafts and a format I had never used before, the first film for which I had a proper casting process that included auditioning over 20 SAG actors before casting my roles. This was also the first film for which I had to assemble my own crew, plan and rent/check out what camera and lighting equipment we would use for the film, organize and execute catering for the cast and crew, and my first time getting official filming permits. In general, this was a more professional and larger scale production than what I was used to. Reading the screenplay I now realize how ambitious I was, writing 15 full pages for something I had two days to shoot. And even though I still think it’s bad and cringy, I enjoy the screenplay more than I do the final product.
