teenage filmography

Below projects created during my teenage/high-scool years are separated into 4 categories which you can read about.

Note: Everything I filmed from the age of 14 - 19 is here, and most of the stuff is kind of embarrassing. I’m presenting these as a way to trace my filmmaking journey.

  • Here are all shorts I wrote, directed, and edited during my teenage years. The films all vary in length and quality.

  • During my senior year of High School, I was the Chief Director for El 107, our student-run magazine and publication. El 107 had a YouTube channel, Canal 107, I was the executive producer for all of its productions during that 2019-2020 school year. They were mainly short Buzzfeed-style videos and sketches featuring students and teachers.

(Note: I had no involvement in Canal 107’s fifth project titled “Marzo 9” which was made entirely by women).

  • EagleTV is the News/Sketch show created and ran by the ASFM Student Council.

During my junior year of High School, in which I was student Vice President, I was in charge of the fourth season of EagleTV. I learned a lot making these and look back on them fondly :)

(Note: EagleTV episodes 1, 2 & 5 are my favorites)

  • I used the MatiasASFM YouTube channel to upload all video assignments completed from 8th through 12th grade. Cringe-worthy school projects,

  • Videos that did not fit into any of the above categories including: A PSA, Student Council campaign video, a short I acted in, and two shorts I shot.

Blue-gate

A 4-part docu-series

BLUE-GATE is a four-part docu-series with a total run-time of 56 minutes. Two classmates and I developed this project over the course of three months during my junior year of High School (2018-2019). The project revolved around our high school’s outsourced cafeteria, Blue Leaf, and the purpose of our investigation was to reveal its inner workings and generally present the situation our cafeteria and school were in. The videos were published as part of our school’s student-run publication/magazine, El 107. Shortly after publication, our school administration mandated we take down the videos. They have been unavailable to watch ever since.

While applying to college I wrote my Common App Essay about the lessons I learned from BLUE-GATE. For my Creative Producing application for Chapman Dodge, I wrote an essay about the making of BLUE-GATE and my experience undertaking this large project. Both papers are linked below.
